    Transcription of John Kirkhuff's will


    Before me on the fourteenth day of October in the year of our lord one tho usand eight hundred and twenty nine personally appeared Charlotte Kirkhu ff and Gersham Bartow executors of John Kirkhuff deceased who being duly s worn on the evanelism of the Lord God Almighty, say that the foregoi ng is the true last will and testament of said deceased so far as they kn ow and as they verily believe that they will faithfully perform the sa me by paying first the debts of said deceased and then his legacies specif ied so far as the goods, chattels, and credits of said deceased can thereu nto extend. That they will make and exact with the surrogates office wi thin the county of Warren within five calendar months of this date an inve ntory of the goods and chattels and credit of said deceased .     In the name of God, Amen, I John Kirkhuff of the township of Knowlto n, County of Warren and State of New Jersey, being weak in the body but pe rfect sound mind and memory do constitute and ordain this as my last wi ll and testament in manner nd way as follows:
    First, it is my will and I so order that all my just debts and funer al expenses be paid as soon as may be convenient after my decease.
    Two it is my will and order that my beloved wife Charlotte shall hav e, hold, and enjoy my estate both real and personal that remains ours a nd above paying my debts and funeral expenses as is above said to her u se during the term she remains my widow excepting such specific legacies a nd bequests as is hereafter mentioned (that is) Salome Kinney and Sally A nn Gibbs I give and bequesth unto each of them one hundred dollars Consid ering and deducting out what they have been charged with out of their lega cy and it is my will and my order that my other daughters, Margaret, Susan na, and Charlotte Kirkhuff shall receive out of my estate the
    same as my two eldest daughters when they each arrive to the age of twen ty one years===and as I have given my son Kirk huff a young horse of the v alue of one hundred dollars it is my will and order that my son James Kirk huff shall have one of the same value out of my stable when he arriv es to the age of twenty one years and it is my will and order that my t wo sons John and James shall continue on the farm with their mother unti ll my youngest daughter Charlotte Kirkhuff arrives to the age of twenty o ne years on condition my widow, that length of time and in case she shou ld not so remain so, it is my will and order that my two sons John and Jam es should continue and occupy the said farm until my ungest daughter arriv es at the age of twenty one years and it is my will and order further th at in case my wife should not survive or continue my widow that when my yo ungest daughter Charlotte Kirkhuff shall arrive to the age of twenty one y ears that my estate both real and personal shall be equally divided betwe en my sons and daughters, John Kirkhuff, James Kirkhuff, Salome Kinney, Sa lly Ann Gibbs, Susanna Kirkhuff, Margaret Kirkhuff, and Charlotte Kirkhu ff share and share alike. And lastly I nominate and appoint my beloved wi fe Charlotte Kirkhuff and Gersham Bartow executors of this my last will a nd testament Inventory whereof I have here unto set my hand and seal on t he second day of September AD 1829.
