  1. 1.  POND Atlas T. was born about 1837 in Southampton Co., Virginia (son of STEPHENSON Norrosa M. R., son of POND William Calthorpe and STEPHENSON Norrosa M. R.); died on 13 Dec 1862 in Fredericksburg, VA.

    Notes:

    Atlas Pond enlisted in the Manchester Artillery,6th Regiment, Virginia Volunteers on May 14, 1861 at Servell's Point near Norfolk, Virginia. He had followed his brother Magnus who had enlisted in the unit on May 1st. at Richmond, Virginia. The unit was designated Compant I, 16th Regiment, Virginia Infantry aboutJuly 1, 1961and later reorganized as an Independent Company in May, 1962. The unit was disbanded after the Battle of Fredericksburg and the surviving men assigned to the Courtney Artillery, Virginia. Atlas T. Pond was mortally wounded on December 13, 1862 at the Battle of Fredericksburg. He lingered on for about a month and died on January 22, 1863

    Marriage Agreement 1852 Chesterfield Co., Va. Deed Book 40, page 91

    This contract made the 19th day of May 1852 between Jackson C. Scarbrough of the first part and Norrosa M. R. Pond widow of William C. Pond late of Matoaca in the County of Chesterfield on the other part. Where as a marriage is shortly to be solemnized between the above named parties and the said Norrosa M. R. Pond is unwilling that the little property of which she is possessor consisting of 4 beds and their furniture and bedsteads, 3 tables, 4 chest, 6 chairs, 2 cupboards, 2 large trunks, looking glass, the usual kitchen utensils, $16.00 by the estate of A. J. Cokes and James Cokes, 2 dogs and dower right in the 143 acres of land in Southampton should pass out of her control by the contemplated marriage. And whereas it hath been agreed by the said parties that the said Jackson C. Scarbrough should only enjoy the benefit of the before mentioned property in common with the said Norrosa M. R. Pond and her children, so long as the parties to this writing may be and remain together. Now this writing witnessed that the entire control of all the above mentioned goods and chattels be now in the possession of the said Norrosa M. R. Pond and what she may hereafter be entitled to by right of inheritance shall be and remain to her solely and as absolutely after the intended marriage as it would be if she remained unmarried. And be as liable for debts contracted by her during coverture as they would be if she remained unmarried. Bur by no means subject to the debts of the said Jackson C.
