Josiah's name appears as a justice of the peace in Warren County having pe rformed marriages.

Josiah's firstwife was Sarah Ferguson. They appear to have had at least t wo children. Sarah died about 1850 and Josiah married Susan Ridgway. Sus an's history is a bit confusing as the surname Brands appears with some of the children yet there is no record of her having married Brands. Later s he appears to have had children by Josiah and all the children appear as D ewitts.

Identified as spouse of Susan Ridgeway by notes of Anna Stem. Susan's mo ther Mahala was a sister of Jeannette Weiss Strunk.
