- THIRD GENERATION
6 1 MARTIN JOHNSON, son of (4 2), was born in what is now Surry County in 1640 No record of his marriage has survived, but we know from his will that he had six children. He doubtless was a planter as his father and grandfather were before him, working the land in western Surry County that had been granted to them. His name appears frequently as a juror for manslaughter and larceny trials during the latter half of the seventeenth century and he often appeared as a witness for property transfers, etc. Martin Johnson's will was recorded on July 16, 1687 and was probated on May 4, 1703. His property, as indicated in his will was considerable and included slaves, a large munber of cattle, and much in way of household furnishings.
